The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl annually awards the Carl Mikovich Sportsperson of the Year Award to some of the greatest athletes and sports figures from the local area who shine a light on Shreveport-Bossier City through their contributions on and off the field, and the 2025 recipients of the award, announced on September 4, exemplify the very spirit of the award – the LSU Shreveport baseball team.
The LSU Shreveport baseball team, fresh off a season for the ages, will be immortalized in the Northwest Louisiana Walk of Stars following its unprecedented 59-0 campaign. The induction ceremony is set for Thursday, Aug. 28 at noon on the LSUS campus.
After pioneering the Pilots to a perfect 59-0 campaign this past season, Head Coach Brad Neffendorf was slated as the 2025 Rawlings-NAIA Baseball Coach of the Year. The honor capped off a historic season and added to a collection of accolades recognizing his leadership during LSU Shreveport’s record-breaking run.
Spring rains seemed to make their appearances on game days for large parts of this baseball season, particularly affecting the NAIA Baseball Regional held at Pilot Field in mid-May. Delays were the norm as rainfall throughout this past Regional and pushed games later as field crews and facility services worked tirelessly to prepare the field for play.
LSU Shreveport star pitcher Draven Zeigler is officially headed to the professional ranks, signing a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates after a dominant junior campaign that helped lead the Pilots to an undefeated season and the 2025 NAIA Baseball National Championship.
