Jarvis Christian
Sterlington, LA - LSUS found themselves playing a day earlier than expected this year in the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. Weather has threatened to push future games in the tournament, so it was decided to take advantage of a good day and start early. LSUS would being the tournament with a bang and pounded Jarvis Chrisitan in the #1 vs. #8 game by a score of 17-1 moving their overall record to 40-7 and advancing themselves to the second round.
The other three games that were played at the same time were close, with one of them going into extra innings, but not the Pilots. Records were set and high powered offense was on full display. Two base hits and a triple by Josh Gibson would start the game for LSUS putting them up early 2-0. Vantrel Reed would follow up that triple with a two run homer, which would also be followed by a Austin Gomm solo shot to put the Pilots up 5-0. Another loud third inning would extend the lead to 8-0 before Jarvis would finally get on the board. Eight more runs in the fifth inning would break the game wide open and LSUS would never look back. Scoring one more in the sixth inning, LSUS would score their final run and ultimately end the game up 17-1.
The Pilots would set a new single game stolen bases record in this one, stealing 13 bases and overtaking the previous number of 12, which had been accomplished three times since 1999. Vantrel Reed would also find himself in sole possession of second place in the record books with five stolen bases. David Salgueiro holds the record of 6 set back in 2017.
Reed would also have himself a game! He would go 4-4 at the plate with 1 home run, 5 stolen bases, 3 RBI, and a walk. Gibson would go 2-3 with 1 triple, 3 RBI, and 2 walks. Jose Sallorin would also have a great day at the plate going 3-4 with a double and 4 RBI. AJ Fritz would pick up the win on the mound giving up just five hits with one run and five strikeouts.
