SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Shreveport (LSUS) completed a three-game sweep of Huston-Tillotson on Saturday, taking both games of their doubleheader at Pilots Field to remain unbeaten on the season. The Pilots secured a 7-2 victory in Game 2 before erupting for a 17-7 win in Game 3.
With the sweep, LSUS improves to 25-0 overall and 12-0 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.
Game 2 Recap
Austin Gomm powered the Pilots' offense in Game 2, driving in four runs, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning that broke open a scoreless game. Josh Gibson added a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.
Huston-Tillotson (HTU) responded with two runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Gary Wafford RBI triple and a run scored on a passed ball. But LSUS answered in the bottom half with an RBI double from Gomm and an RBI double from Ian Montz to seal the 7-2 win.
On the mound, Cobe Reeves (5-0) picked up the win, going six innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out eight. Ethan Walker (1-6) took the loss for Huston-Tillotson, surrendering one hit and one run over three innings while fanning three.
Game 3 Recap
Game 3 saw an offensive explosion from LSUS, despite falling behind 7-5 after six innings. The Pilots erupted for 12 runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Bula White and Angel Rodriguez opened the scoring with solo homers in the first. HTU rallied to take a 7-5 lead in the sixth on a solo homer by Adam Sheehan and a bases-loaded walk by Luke Vizcarra.
LSUS responded with a 12-run seventh inning, starting with an RBI triple from Anthony Swenda and an RBI triple from Gomm to tie the game at 7-7. Vantrel Reed's go-ahead RBI single gave LSUS the lead for good. The Pilots then piled on with a pair of two-run doubles from Swenda and Diego Aragon, along with RBI hits from Gomm, Reed, and Jose Sallorin to cap the decisive frame.
David Hankins closed out the game for LSUS, pitching one inning while allowing two hits and striking out one. Jonas Garza took the loss for Huston-Tillotson, giving up three runs on four hits over four innings.
