Pilots Look to Bounce Back in Lewiston

Lewiston, ID - In the highly anticipated matchup between two of the top teams in the NAIA, it was the Warriors of Lewis-Clark State that came out on top today 3-4 and 3-8. The first game of the series was played on Friday night, but because of weather that moved in late in the evening the game was halted in the bottom of the seventh inning tied at zero. That game will be completed on Sunday.
Returning today, the Pilots and the Warriors started similarly to how they left it last night. In a game that felt very much like a World Series slugfest, the pitchers stole the show. Runs would become hard to find after Jayden Morgan would start the game with a solo home run in the first inning, that would be countered by the Warriors that would tie the game at one. That would be the end of the scoring for several innings. A pinch hit two-run homer by Josh Gibson in the the sixth would put the Pilots on top and allow them some breathing room. In the bottom half of the sixth, Draven Zeigler would hand the ball over to the Pilots bullpen with the Pilots leading by two. The Warriors would throw another counter punch and put the first three batters on base, scoring one. LSUS would make another pitching change in hopes of mitigating the damage while LC would load up the bases. David Hankins would strike out the side, but not before LC would score one more tying the game at three. The rest of the game would see both teams threaten but be unable to score until a solo walkoff homerun in the 10th inning by the Warriors would end it by a score of 3-4.
Jose Sallorin 3-4
Jayden Morgan 1-4, Homerun, 1 RBI
Josh Gibson 1-2, Homerun, 2 RBI
Draven Zeigler 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4K
The Warriors would carry the momentum from their walkoff in game one into game two. LC would plate six runs in the first inning digging a large hole for the Pilots to try and climb out of. Unable to get things going offensively, LSUS would find themselves down 8-0 heading into the sixth inning. Finding life, Carter LaValley would single through the right side scoring Jayden Morgan and advancing Ryan Davenport to third. Jack Parks would follow that with a groundout to first base but would score Davenport on the hit. Trevor Burkhart would then advance to second on a passed ball that would allow LaValley to score making the score 3-8. LSUS would threaten a few more times throughout the game, but would be unable to find any more runs and fall in game two 3-8.
Trevor Burkhart 3-4, Double
Ryan Davenport 1-2, 1 R
Josh Gibson 1-3, Double, 2 walks
LSUS and LC will return tomorrow at 1pm CT to play game four of the series and complete the final 2 1/2 innings from game one.
