LSUS Baseball Takes Game One Against Louisiana Christian with a 6-2 Victory

SHREVEPORT, La. -- On Friday, the Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots took care of business as they took down the Louisiana Christian Wildcats, improving to 4-0 in Red River play.

   The Wildcats began the scoring with an RBI groundout from Gavin Vordick in the top of the fourth inning. The Pilots struck as Jose Sallorin recorded his own RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats recaptured the lead in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Nick Lorio. The Pilots answered again when Jackson Syring blasted his third homer of the season to dead center field.

   In the bottom of the seventh, the Pilots took their first lead of the night as Ryan Davenport dumped a base hit into left center field, scoring two. The Pilots got insurance in the bottom of the eighth with a Vantrel Reed hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly from Ian Montz. Kenneth Schechter shut things down in the ninth with a six-out save, his first of the season to help the Pilots improve to 17-0 overall.

   Isaac Rohde had another stellar outing for LSUS, going seven innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and seven strikeouts. For Louisiana Christian, Cy Fontenot threw six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one.

   At the plate for the Pilots, Davenport had a nice game with two hits and two RBI, as well as a stolen base. Jackson Syring hit a home run and Angel Rodriguez tallied two doubles.

   For the Wildcats, Lorio recorded a hit and RBI, Tyler McKenna tallied two hits, and Vordick drove in a run.

   The Pilots will be back at it tomorrow at Pilots Field against the Wildcats with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
