By: Cameron Braun, LSUS Sports Information

On Sunday, the Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots broke the LSUS single-game record for runs scored and runs driven in as they completed the sweep of the Texas College Steers to improve to 33-0.

The offense began in the bottom of the first when Ryan Davenport slugged the first pitch thrown by Edwin Zuniga over the left field wall to make it 1-0. Austin Gomm and DJ Walker then both recorded RBI singles, followed by a three-run homer from Ian Montz. Two more RBI singles from Davenport and Gomm made it 11-0. A Montz groundout, single from Anthony Swenda, and a two-run double from Josh Gibson were all part of a sixteen run first inning.

In the second inning, a groundout from Jose Sallorin, a Diego Aragon triple, and an RBI knock from Gibson extended the lead to 19-0. In the top of the third inning, Noah Codina homered to get the Steers first run on the board, and then a second run scored on a wild pitch, making it 19-2. In the bottom of the fourth, the Pilots scored 15 more off of hit-by-pitches to Jackson Syring and Bula White, walks to Nathaniel de la Cruz and Jose Sallorin, a Tamden Webb-Tate sacrifice fly, singles from Carlos Vega and Christian Hobbs, then a Syring three run double, a three-run home run from de la Cruz, then finally a walk by Vega.

In the bottom of the sixth, Cooper Huspen drove a run in with a single. Vega reached on a fielding error in right field, bringing in the thirty-sixth run of the game. A Hobbs double drove in two more runs, setting a new LSUS single game record for runs scored at thirty eight. A Syring sacrifice fly then a three-run home run from White extended the lead and runs scored record to 42-2. In the top of the seventh, the Steers brought in two more on a Jason Fuentes groundout and a wild pitch after an Alex font strike out, setting the final score at 42-4 Pilots.

Cobe Reeves got the start and earned the win, going four innings giving up one earned run and an unearned run on two hits and striking out nine while walking one. The loss went to Texas College starter Edwin Zuniga as he was unable to record an out, giving up eleven earned runs on seven hits and walking four.

The Pilots also set the new single game RBI record at thirty-four for LSUS history. The records were previously set at thirty-seven runs scored and thirty-two RBIs, both set on February 14th, 2008 against Tougaloo College. Fifteen Pilots recorded a hit, sixteen reached base. Nine Pilots recorded multiple hits. Huspen and Gibson led the way with three hits each. Syring led the RBI total with five.

For Texas College, Zerrick Jones recorded two hits and Codina had the home run.
