LSUS Dominates Nelson University, Stays Perfect at 34-0

WAXAHACHIE, Texas — LSU Shreveport continued its dominant season with a 14-2 victory over Nelson University on Tuesday afternoon, extending its perfect record to 34-0.
The Pilots wasted no time getting on the board, capitalizing on an error to bring in Ryan Davenport in the first inning. Austin Gomm followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Josh Gibson to give LSUS an early 2-0 lead.
Gomm played a key role in the second inning as well, singling home a run before Vantrel Reed added an RBI single to extend the Pilots' lead to 4-0. Nelson responded in the third when Wesley Flatt drove in a run with a single, but LSUS continued to pile on runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
LSUS exploded for an eight-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Angel Rodriguez and a solo shot from Jose Sallorin. Gomm doubled in another run, while DJ Walker added a two-RBI double. The Pilots capped their scoring in the seventh with an RBI double from Bula White and a groundout RBI from Christian Hobbs.
Ryan Davenport, Austin Gomm, Vantrel Reed, DJ Walker, Bula White, Angel Rodriguez, Jose Sallorin, and Christian Hobbs all contributed RBIs for the Pilots' offensive outburst. Davenport, Gibson, Reed, Cooper Huspen, and Jackson Syring each swiped a stolen base, showcasing LSUS's aggressive base running.
David Hankins (4-0) earned the win for LSUS, allowing one run on two hits over 2 1/3 innings while striking out two. Lex Meinderts recorded his third save of the season, closing out the game with a scoreless inning.
Nelson's only other run came on a solo home run from Josh Pinter in the sixth. Peyton Ramsay (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.
LSUS will be back in action at Pilots Field on Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m. as they take on Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
