No. 1 LSUS Cruises Past Xavier (La.) in Series Opener, 10-1

NEW ORLEANS — Top-ranked LSU Shreveport extended its perfect season with a commanding 10-1 victory over Xavier University (La.) in the series opener Thursday night.
The Pilots (20-0, 7-0 Red River Athletic Conference) jumped out early and never looked back, led by Josh Gibson's three-hit, three-RBI performance.
Isaac Rohde (5-0) dominated on the mound, striking out 10 over 7.1 innings while allowing just two hits and one run. Xavier (10-10, 3-4 RRAC) got its lone RBI from Jaden Smith in the seventh inning.
Jeremy Clark (1-3) took the loss for the Gold Rush, giving up five runs on four hits in three innings.
LSUS opened the scoring in the first when Gibson stole third and came home on a throwing error. The Pilots added two more in the third on RBI hits from Gibson and Jose Sallorin before breaking the game open with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by Bula White's RBI triple and aggressive baserunning.
Ryan Davenport, White, Carlos Vega, and Sallorin also chipped in with RBIs for LSUS.
The Pilots and Gold Rush continue their series Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
