Pilots Take Series Sweep and Shutout Against Xavier (LA)

Shreveport, Louisiana— In a commanding performance on both offense and defense, the Pilots of LSU Shreveport secured a decisive 6-0 victory over the Gold Rush of Xavier, completing a full series shutout and asserting their dominance on the diamond. With the win the Pilots move to 22-2 on the season and 14-1 in conference while also keeping an 11-game win streak.

The Pilots wasted no time in taking control of the game, holding the Gold Rush scoreless in the top of the first inning with strong pitching and solid defensive play. As they came to the plate in the bottom of the inning, they displayed their offensive prowess, capitalizing on scoring opportunities to take an early lead.

Josh Gibson set the tone with a leadoff walk, getting on base and setting the stage for the Pilots' offensive onslaught. Vantrel Reed followed up with a single, advancing Gibson to second base. A well-executed double steal put both runners in scoring position, setting the stage for Jose Aguino, who delivered a sacrifice fly to bring the first run across the plate. Angel Rodriguez then came through with a clutch hit, driving in Reed to extend the Pilots' lead to 2-0.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second and third innings, as strong pitching and solid defense kept the game close. However, the Pilots continued to add to their lead, with Dj Walker delivering a crucial hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, doubling to left field to score Rodriguez and push the lead to 3-0.

In the later innings, the Pilots continued to apply pressure, adding one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning and two more in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the shutout victory and complete the series sweep.

At the plate, Vantrel Reed led the offensive charge for the Pilots, going 2-for-4 with one run scored. Angel Rodriguez also made significant contributions, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI.

On the mound, AJ Fritz delivered a stellar performance, pitching six innings and striking out six batters to earn the win for the Pilots. His strong outing set the tone for the team's success and paved the way for the shutout victory.

The Pilots will be back in action Tuesday March 19th as they face the Lions of SAGU. First pitch is set for 3:00pm CT from Pilot Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.
