LSUS Women’s Soccer Falls to UNOH in First Round of NAIA National Tournament

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's soccer team concluded their remarkable 2024 season with a hard-fought 2-1 defeat against the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) in the first round of the NAIA National Women's Soccer Tournament on Thursday night.

The Pilots showcased their grit throughout the match but came up just short against a tough UNOH squad. The Racers struck first in the 65th minute when Mathilda Berg Karlsson found the back of the net to give UNOH a 1-0 lead.

LSUS responded quickly with a highlight-worthy equalizer in the 68th minute. Juliana Anchondo delivered a clutch goal off a perfectly placed assist from Dawniella Torres, igniting the Pilots' bench and evening the score at 1-1.

However, UNOH regained the advantage late in the match. In the 85th minute, Vivian Purmonen capitalized on a pass from Inga Ehrenfried to score the game-winning goal.

In goal for LSUS, Karina Correa stood tall, recording three critical saves to keep the Pilots within striking distance. UNOH's goalkeeper, Sophia Eisner, was also solid in net, finishing with one save to preserve the victory.

With the loss, the Pilots wrapped up an impressive 2024 campaign with an overall record of 15-5-1, including a stellar 12-1 mark in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.

The Pilots will now turn their focus to the offseason as they aim to build on this year's achievements and continue their pursuit of excellence in 2025.
