SHREVEPORT, La. — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) Pilots dropped their RRAC Women's Soccer Tournament semifinal match, 1-3, to the Louisiana State University Alexandria (LSUA) Generals on Tuesday morning. Despite a strong showing in the second half, the Pilots could not overcome a late scoring surge by the Generals.
LSUS found the back of the net first when Dawniella Torres converted off an assist from Gemma White in the 52nd minute, giving the Pilots a 1-0 lead. However, the Generals responded with an impressive offensive display, led by Hille Baumfalk, who netted the equalizer in the 70th minute. Alexia Bermejo Jo followed up with another goal in the 77th minute, and Baumfalk struck again in the 85th minute, sealing the 3-1 victory for LSUA.
Victoria Weber (W, 11-3-2) provided a solid performance in goal for LSUA, making four key saves to keep the Pilots' offense at bay. LSUS goalkeeper Melanie Garcia (L, 6-3-1) held strong with five saves throughout the match, but LSUA's relentless attack proved too much in the end.
With the loss, the Pilots now turn their attention to the NAIA National Women's Soccer Tournament. As the RRAC Women's Soccer Regular Season Champions, LSUS has earned an automatic bid and will await the announcement of their first-round opponent in the national tournament.
