OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) men's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday night, defeating Mid-America Christian University (MACU) 4-1 in the second round of the 2024 NAIA National Tournament. With the win, the Pilots advance to the tournament's final site and the Round of 16 in Wichita, Kansas.
The Pilots wasted no time setting the tone for the evening. Guillermo Ferreiro opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the match, firing a shot into the net to give LSUS an early 1-0 lead. Caleb Marchany doubled the advantage in the 27th minute, displaying precision and composure to extend the Pilots' control.
Two minutes later, Jack Thomas capitalized on an assist from Joel Trueb, netting the third goal for LSUS in the 29th minute. Thomas struck again in the 36th minute, this time converting a setup from Kodai Tanaka to make it 4-0 before halftime.
MACU's Enzo Nogue pulled one back for the Evangels in the 63rd minute, but the Pilots' defense held firm for the remainder of the match. Goalkeeper Kyle McLeish recorded two saves on the night, while MACU's Claudio Fuentealba tallied three saves in the loss.
With the victory, LSUS will face Bellevue University on Monday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. The Pilots will look to continue their strong tournament run as they aim for a national title.
