SHREVEPORT, La. — May 5, 2025 — The LSUS women's tennis program was well-represented in the 2025 Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) postseason awards, with standout performances earning Pierina Lescher, Sara Sofia Sanchez, and Angela Basto prestigious honors. Headlining the list is sophomore Pierina Lescher, who was named the 2025 RRAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year and earned a spot on the RRAC All-Conference First Team.
Lescher, a Maracaibo, Venezuela native, anchored the Pilots from the No. 1 singles position with an exceptional 11-2 record on the season. Her steady consistency, mental toughness, and leadership on the court were instrumental in propelling the Pilots' success. Lescher also proved dominant in doubles play, partnering with Daniela Maldonado at the No. 1 doubles spot to compile an identical 11-2 mark. The pair were also ranked No. 49 in the nation by the ITA (March 31).
Joining Lescher on the list of honorees is sophomore Sara Sofia Sanchez, who earned RRAC All-Conference Second Team recognition. Competing at the No. 5 singles position, Sanchez, a Bogotá, Colombia native, delivered an 11-3 record, demonstrating impressive resilience and control throughout the year. In doubles, she teamed up with Maike Tiermersma, and the duo posted a strong 7-4 season, offering consistency and spark in the Pilots' lineup.
Senior Angela Basto was recognized with a well-deserved selection to the RRAC Champions of Character Team, an honor that reflects not only athletic contributions but integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership. Basto, also from Bogotá, Colombia, compiled a 6-3 record at the No. 3 singles spot, bringing veteran experience and composure to every match. In doubles, Basto and partner Lidia Gomez dominated with an impressive 11-1 record, becoming one of the conference's most formidable tandems.
