LSUS Women's Tennis Edges Louisiana Christian to Open LSUA Tournament

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LSUS women's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Louisiana Christian University in its opening match at the LSUA Tennis Tournament on Thursday.
The Pilots took the doubles point with a pair of key wins. Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado battled past Patricia Principal Pineda and Alexandra Cedeno, 7-6, while Lidia Gomez and Sara Sofia Sanchez claimed a 6-4 win over Raquel Coelho Rodrigues and Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez. Miake Tiermersma and Ana Mandrot narrowly fell to Adjowa-Sika Geli, 6-7.
In singles action, Lescher led the way with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 victory over Rodrigues. Gomez followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Elizaveta Mikhailova, and Sanchez edged Principal in a tight 7-6, 7-5 contest. Maldonado clinched the win for LSUS with a three-set victory over Geli, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Tiermersma fell in a three-set battle to Ferrer, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, while Mandrot dropped her match against Cedeno, 5-7, 3-6.
LSUS will continue tournament play on Friday, March 28, against Xavier University (La.). First serve is set for 2 p.m.
