Tennis Splits on the Day, Sweeps Lewis-Clark State 4-0, Falls to OLLU 1-4

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The LSUS women's tennis team put together a dominant performance against Lewis-Clark State College, securing a 4-0 victory before falling, 1-4, in a hard-fought match to Our Lady of the Lake University over the weekend.

The Pilots started strong in doubles play, securing the opening point with two commanding victories. Angela Basto and Maike Tiemersma cruised past Vimbai Heidi-Moyo and their opponent, 6-1, while Lidia Gomez and Sara Sanchez blanked Nairara Montero and Carisa Liebenberg, 6-0. Despite Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado dropping their match against Beatriz Lambru and April Buckingham, 2-6, LSUS claimed the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles.

In singles competition, Lescher set the tone with a solid 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lambru. Tiemersma followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Rayana Shah. Sanchez took care of business with a 6-3, 6-1 result over Paige Noble-Lucas. With the Pilots securing the necessary four points, the remaining matches were left unfinished. Basto was split with Heidi-Moyo (6-4, 1-4), Maldonado was locked in a battle with Liebenberg (6-4, 3-6), and Mandrot was leading in her second set against Montero after dropping the first (6-7, 3-2) when play was halted.
