Pilots’ Rally Falls Short in 3-2 Loss to Mid-America Christian

SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Shreveport women's soccer came up just short in a 3-2 match against Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon at The Swamp.

The Pilots (1-4) fell behind early as the Evangels struck twice in the opening minutes. Madison Chavez opened the scoring in the 5th minute off a pass from Brae Baker, and Maria Scopino added another in the 7th minute with help from Olivia Houlston. LSUS answered when Lina Regadane converted in the 18th minute, finishing a pass from Halee Hernandez to bring the score to 2-1.

Mid-America Christian added to its lead in the 37th minute on a goal by Gladis Avalos. LSU Shreveport closed the gap again in the second half when Jade Derks scored in the 68th minute from a Martina Bonilla assist.

The Pilots generated chances late but were unable to level the match. Goalkeeper Elena Lopez played the full 90 minutes for LSUS and recorded three saves, while Alba Vigo finished with six saves for the Evangels.

LSU Shreveport will continue its homestand on Saturday, September 13, with an 11 a.m. kickoff against Cumberland (Tenn.) at The Swamp.
