LSUS and Grambling State Battle Evenly in Exhibition

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport women's soccer matched NCAA Division I Grambling State University stride-for-stride in a competitive exhibition Thursday morning at The Swamp. Veterans Jade Derks and Mada Uriarte delivered standout performances, helping lead the Pilots in their second outing under new head coach Andy Kaplan.
The Pilots played with relentless energy, pressing the Tigers from start to finish and giving the visitors all they could handle in the friendly contest. Kaplan said the match showed just how much progress his squad has made in just one week.
"I thought the girls did a wonderful job, and the progress we've made from our scrimmage last week to this week has been monumental," Kaplan said. "We possessed the ball quite well and our defensive aggressiveness improved."
Kaplan also praised the team's growing chemistry and depth, noting how well they stacked up against top-level competition.
"As the season moves on, it [the exhibition] shows we can go deeper into our bench with these games, and I feel like if you more than hold your own against a Division I team, the future is pretty bright," Kaplan added.
LSUS will look to build on the performance when they travel to Siloam Springs, Ark., to face John Brown University on August 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
