LSUS Women's Soccer Triumphs, 3-1, Over Southwest

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) Pilots secured a commanding 3-1 victory over the University of the Southwest (USW) on Thursday afternoon, improving their season record to 11-3 with an impressive team performance. The Pilots move to 8-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC).

Southwest struck first in the 10th minute when Maya Sanchez found the back of the net off a well-placed assist from Jadyn Duran and Brooke Thatcher, giving the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead.

However, LSUS quickly responded with Diana Godines netting the equalizer in the 28th minute. Godines finished a pinpoint pass from Gemma White, leveling the match at 1-1. The Pilots gained momentum and took the lead just before halftime when Gemma White converted a penalty kick in the 44th minute, putting LSUS up 2-1 at the break.

The Pilots continued their attacking pressure into the second half, and it paid off once again in the 57th minute. Godines secured her second goal of the day off a dynamic combination play assisted by Dawniella Torres and Gemma White, extending LSUS's lead to 3-1.

In goal for the Pilots, Melanie Garcia anchored the defense with five saves, helping to keep Southwest at bay for the remainder of the match. On the other side, Southwest's Kristina Simpson and Elena Moya split time in goal, with Simpson recording 12 saves and Moya adding two more.

The Pilots will now set their sights on Saturday, Oct. 19, as they host Paul Quinn College for Senior Day at The Swamp.
