Waxahachie, TX – The LSUS Pilots soared to victory once again, clinching a 3-1 win against the Nelson University Lions on a dynamic evening of soccer in Waxahachie, Texas. With this triumph, the Pilots have now secured their third straight win, advancing their season record to 3-2.
The Pilots faced an early challenge as Nelson University took the lead in the 9th minute with a goal from Stephanie Hernandez, assisted by Stephanie Arreola. Despite several chances, including a close header by Juliana Anchondo and a series of corner kicks, the Pilots struggled to find the back of the net in the first half.
However, the Pilots' persistence paid off. Dawniella Torres equalized in the 31st minute with an assist from Yuvia Vazquez, bringing the score to 1-1. Just before halftime, Diana Godines gave LSUS the lead with a crucial goal, making it 2-1.
The second half saw the Pilots maintain their momentum and make key adjustments to secure their lead. Maja Nikolic's successful penalty kick in the 64th minute extended LSUS's lead to 3-1. Despite some late efforts from the Lions, including several corner kicks and shots, the Pilots' defense and the combination of goalkeepers Karina Correa and Isabelle Mapanao ensured the win.
LSUS will return to action next Thursday at 1pm when they face off against conference foe, Our Lady of the Lake in the first game of the Red River Athletic Conference schedule.
