Pilots Pick up Top 25 Win Against Benedictine

Atchison, Kansas — In a stunning display of determination and skill, the LSUS Pilots women's soccer team defeated the 25th-ranked Benedictine Ravens 2-1 in an electrifying contest on the Ravens' home turf moving the Pilots record 2-2-0.

The Pilots, who entered the game as the underdogs, showcased their tenacity and tactical prowess from the very first whistle. The match, played under the sun-drenched skies of Atchison, saw both teams battling fiercely for control, but it was the Pilots who capitalized on their opportunities with a remarkable performance.

The game began with both teams demonstrating high levels of intensity and determination. The Ravens managed to take an early lead in the 22nd minute when Audrey Bolan scored the first goal of the match, giving Benedictine a 1-0 advantage. Despite numerous chances and aggressive play, the Ravens could not extend their lead.

The Pilots, undeterred by the deficit, came out strong in the second half. The turning point came in the 46th minute when Juliana Anchondo leveled the score with a brilliant assist from Yuvia Vazquez, making it 1-1. Just two minutes later, Anchondo struck again with a superb individual effort to give the Pilots a 2-1 lead.

Benedictine continued to press, creating several opportunities, but LSUS's defense, led by goalkeeper Karina Correa, was resolute. Correa made key saves, including stopping powerful shots from Christine Znidarsic and Audrey Bolan in the final minutes of the match, ensuring the Pilots' narrow lead held. LSUS would finish the road trip to Kansas with two wins. 

The Pilots return to action on September 11th against Nelson University at 5pm at the Swamp.
