Pilots Pick Up First Win in Land of Oz

Leavenworth, Kansas –The LSUS Pilots women's soccer team picked up an impressive first win of the 2024 season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Saint Mary College in their match held in Leavenworth, Kansas. The win marks the Pilots' first of the season moving their overall record to 1-2-0.

The game started with intense action on both ends of the field. Early on, the Pilots' forward, Yuvia Vazquez, tested Saint Mary's goalkeeper, Marisol Vargas, with multiple shots. Despite Vargas' valiant efforts, the Pilots were relentless in their pursuit.

The breakthrough came in the 49th minute when Gisell Jimenez scored the first goal of the season, assisted by Vazquez. The Pilots continued to press, and their efforts paid off with a penalty kick goal from Diana Godines in the 56th minute, extending their lead to 2-0.

Saint Mary fought hard to find a way back into the game, but the Pilots' defense, led by goalkeeper Karina Correa, was resolute. Correa made several crucial saves throughout the match, maintaining her clean sheet and showcasing her skill between the posts.

The final blow to Saint Mary's hopes came in the 83rd minute when Jimenez scored her second goal of the game, sealing the victory for the Pilots with a 3-0 scoreline. This goal was a testament to Jimenez's sharpness and the cohesive play of the LSUS team.

With this win, the LSUS Pilots set a strong foundation for the rest of the season. They will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their upcoming game against Benedictine College on Saturday in Atchinson, KS.
