Women's Soccer Falls Short Against MACU in Narrow 1-2 Defeat

Oklahoma City, OK – The LSUS Pilots women's soccer team faced a tough challenge on Thursday night as they were narrowly defeated by the MACU Evangels with a final score of 1-2. The loss drops the Pilots' season record to 0-2-0.

The first half saw a strong start from both teams. MACU's Stephanie Arrivillag put the home team ahead with a goal in the 13th minute after a series of corner kicks put pressure on the Pilots' defense. Despite several opportunities and a persistent effort from LSUS, including a header shot from Alba Martinez that was blocked and a corner kick by Yuvia Vazquez, the Pilots were unable to capitalize on their chances.

The Pilots' defense, led by goalkeeper Melanie Garcia, made several key saves, including a notable stop on a shot from Brae Baker in the 22nd minute and another from Francesca Martella in the 44th minute. However, the Pilots entered the halftime break trailing 0-1.

The second half saw the Pilots come out strong, with several attempts to equalize. Juliana Anchondo's shot in the 46th minute was saved by Torres, and Alba Martinez's attempt in the 50th minute was blocked. The Pilots continued their push and came close to scoring when Diana Godines hit the crossbar in the 68th minute.

Disaster struck in the 79th minute when LSUS turned the ball over in their defensive zone, and then immediately fouled a MACU player in the box giving the Evangels a penalty kick opportunity. MACU would take a 2-0 lead after capitalizing on the PK.

Late life would come for LSUS in the 83rd minute when Mada Uriarte scored to narrow the score to 2-1.

The Pilots fought valiantly to find another equalizer, with Jillian Rogers and Alba Martinez both testing the MACU defense. Despite their efforts and a final corner kick by Yuvia Vazquez in the dying moments, the Pilots were unable to find the net again.

LSUS will return to action on September 5th when they head to Kansas to face Saint Mary.
