Women's Soccer Wrangle Mustangs to Keep the Streak Alive

Hobbs, New Mexico—In an intense match, the LSUS Pilots managed to narrowly defeat the University of the Southwest Mustangs with a final score of 2-1. With the win the Pilots improve their conference record to 5-1-2 while bring their overall season line to 7-3-2.

The game got off to an exciting start when Chelsea Brown of the Pilots found the back of the net in the 9th minute. Dawniella Torres delivered a precise corner kick, and Brown expertly redirected it into the goal.

However, the Mustangs wasted no time in responding, leveling the field just a minute later, bringing the score to 1-1. The tension on the field was palpable as both teams battled for supremacy.

But it was Abbie Rutledge who ultimately made the difference for the Pilots. In the 30th minute, Rutledge executed a well-timed counterattack, securing the go-ahead goal for LSUS, making it 2-1. Her goal proved to be the turning point in the match, and it would be enough to secure the victory.

The Pilots displayed impressive defensive skills in the second half, successfully holding off the Mustangs' attacks. Much credit goes to Carlota Alcalde, who made an outstanding contribution in goal, with six crucial saves. Her performance ensured that the Pilots maintained their narrow lead until the final whistle.

The Pilots will be back in action Saturday October 14th as they take on the Tigers of Paul Quinn. Kick off is set for 1:00pm CT from Dallas, Texas.
