Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated Heading into Conference

Shreveport, Louisiana- The Women's soccer team continues to improve their season as they defeated the SAGU Lions Saturday evening. The Lady Pilots brought the close of their preseason games home with a record of 5-0-1 overall before heading into conference.
How It Happened
The Pilots would take an early jump over the Lions with two quick shots in the first five minutes. Chelsea Brown and Dawniella Torres would get the Pilots started as they settled in for the match. It would be the Lions however who would find the back of the net first. In the 10th minute of action Alexis Roman would sneak one past Carlota Alcalde into the Pilot goal. Feeling the pressure, the Pilots rallied back in the next 20 minutes of the half taking three corners and four shots, putting the Lions under immense pressure. It would be Yuvia Vazquez to step up for the Pilots. Aimee Dilworth played the ball through which Vazquez would hit from outside the 18-yard box into the upper corner, sending the game to a draw at halftime.
Having equalized just before the half, the Pilots were determined to come out strong. Just 32 seconds into the start of the second half Charlotte Schmidt received a pass from Abbie Rutledge that she sent into the Lion net from the 40-yard line. The Pilots continued to chip away at the Lions taking 10 more shots in the second half and denying their opponents an opportunity on goal.
Coach Dejan Milosevic said, "It was a very good game from our team today. It took us a minute to feel the turn but we got the hang of it after20 minutes. We dominated from that moment to the end of the game. I believe this was our most consistent game this season so far. We finished out-of-conference play successfully. It's time to focus on the Conference play and keep improving ourselves."
Pilot of the Match
Yuvia Vazquez was selected as Pilot of the Match for today's game. Vazquez stepped up big for the Pilots in the end of the first by bringing the game back even. Her passion and will to compete brought her team forward to create a win. Vazquez finished the match with four shots, three of which were on frame, and one goal.
The women's team will be back in action Thursday September 22nd as they open conference play against Our Lady of the Lake. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm CT at The Swamp.
