LSUS’s Dominant Season Ends with 64-56 Loss to Huntington in NAIA Tournament

HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — LSUS's remarkable season came to an end Friday night in the NAIA women's basketball tournament as the Pilots fell to Huntington College (Ind.) 64-56 in Hastings, Nebraska.

The Pilots (27-4) struggled offensively, shooting just 27.5% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range, while Huntington (18-12) capitalized on key plays down the stretch.

Paula Gonzalez Herrero led LSUS with 14 points, four rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal. Alexis Brown added 12 points, four steals, and three assists, while Erynn Williams anchored the defense with a team-high 10 rebounds and five steals.

Bailey Kelham paced the Foresters with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Gabi Melby matched Kelham's scoring with 15 points and contributed seven assists, four rebounds, and one steal. Liv Raby notched a double-double with 16 rebounds and 13 points, adding three steals, two blocks, and one assist.

Huntington shot 37.5% from the field and 28.9% from beyond the arc, while converting 73.3% of their free throws. The Pilots, despite their defensive pressure, couldn't overcome their shooting woes at the other end.

The loss marks the end of a dominant season for LSUS, which captured both the Red River Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, solidifying its place among the top teams in the NAIA.
