LSUS Claims Back-to-Back RRAC Championships with Gritty Win Over LSUA

Alexandria, La. — The LSUS Pilots (27-3) proved their dominance once again, edging out LSUA 54-51 in a hard-fought battle Sunday afternoon to secure their second consecutive Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Women's Basketball Championship. The victory capped off a stellar season for the Pilots, who had also defeated the Generals in their regular-season finale to clinch their second straight RRAC Regular Season Championship.

Paula Gonzalez Herrero led the way for LSUS, earning RRAC Tournament MVP honors with a clutch performance of 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists. She was joined on the RRAC All-Tournament Team by teammates Rachael Emmanuel and Helena Galunic, who played key roles in the Pilots' championship run. Galunic also secured a team-high seven rebounds, helping LSUS battle on the glass.

Despite shooting struggles—LSUS finished at 31.3% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc—the Pilots found ways to make big plays when it mattered most. Their 66.7% free-throw shooting proved crucial in the closing minutes, allowing them to hold off a late LSUA surge.

The Generals were powered by Jewel Jones, who posted 18 points and six rebounds, while Justice Young recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. LSUA shot 34.0% from the floor and 23.8% from three, but despite a slight shooting edge, they couldn't overcome the Pilots' resilience.

With the RRAC title in hand, LSUS now turns its attention to the NAIA National Tournament, where they look to continue their impressive season on the biggest stage.
