Hays Named RRAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year in First Season

SHREVEPORT, La. — Following a season filled with broken records, Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's basketball head coach Tim Hays has been named the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, the league announced today. Hays earns the honor after leading the Pilots to their fourth RRAC Regular Season Championship in his first year, finishing with a 23-1 conference record and 24-3 overall.

Under Hays' leadership, the Pilots have continued their dominance in the RRAC and are currently riding a 19-game winning streak heading into the RRAC Tournament. His defensive philosophy has fueled individual excellence, with Erynn Williams setting a new single-season steals record (81) and Alexis Brown etching her name in program history with a career-best 152 steals. Williams and Paula Gonzalez have also set the single game record for steals and are tied with eight. As a team, the Pilots have also already set the program single season steals record with 413 surpassing the previous record of 376.

LSUS will open the postseason against No. 8-seeded Paul Quinn College in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Women's Basketball Tournament. The matchup is set for Friday, February 28, with tip-off at 3 p.m. at the Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, Louisiana. Having received the regular season automatic qualifier, LSUS will continue their season in the NAIA National Tournament following the RRAC tournament on March 14th.
