LSUS Clinches Back-to-Back RRAC Titles with Thrilling 62-61 Victory Over LSUA

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a dramatic home closer, the LSUS Pilots edged out the LSUA Generals, 62-61, on Thursday night to secure the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Regular Season Championship for the second consecutive year. With the win, the Pilots improve to 24-3 overall and 23-1 in conference play, solidifying their dominance in the RRAC.
Helena Galunic led the charge for LSUS, finishing with 16 points to pace the Pilots' offense. Selma Markisic put together a well-rounded performance, tallying 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block. Alexis Brown made her presence felt on both ends of the floor, contributing five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Rachael Emmanuel controlled the glass with a team-high seven rebounds.
Despite trailing in overall shooting percentage, LSUS capitalized on key opportunities, shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 75 percent from the free-throw line. The Pilots dominated in key statistical categories, outscoring LSUA in points off turnovers (26-10), points in the paint (26-16), and bench points (19-11).
LSUA was led by Jewel Jones, who matched Galunic's game-high 16 points while adding three rebounds and three assists. Alexis Dyer chipped in 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Amani Gray controlled the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds. The Generals shot 41.2 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three-point range, and 64.3 percent from the charity stripe but fell just short in the final moments.
With the regular season wrapped up, LSUS now turns its attention to the RRAC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Pilots await the official tournament bracket to see who they will face in their opening-round matchup on February 28.
