Pilots Get Their Revenge, Edge Xavier in Thrilling 58-56 Showdown

New Orleans, La. – The LSUS women's basketball team took care of business Tuesday night, securing a hard-fought 58-56 victory over Xavier University (La.) to avenge their only Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) loss of the season. With the win, the Pilots improve to an impressive 17-3 overall and 16-1 in conference play.
Selma Markisic led the charge for LSUS, delivering a clutch performance with 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Paula Gonzalez Herrero made her presence felt with 12 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, while Vicky Parra added 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists to keep the Pilots in control. Helena Galunic was a force on the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds, while Erynn Williams anchored the defensive effort with four steals.
LSUS shot 39 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from deep, and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line. The Pilots' relentless defense and composure in the final minutes sealed the victory.
Xavier fought hard, with Kay Shelley leading the way with 17 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Lauren Banks added 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Patricia Sosa Lora recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Gold Nuggets finished the night shooting 30.5 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from three-point range, and 57.1 percent from the stripe.
With this key win under their belts, the Pilots now turn their focus to their next challenge as they return home to The Dock on Thursday, Jan. 30, to face the University of the Southwest. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
