Pilots Secure 72-58 Victory Over Jaguars in Saturday Showdown

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's basketball team claimed a commanding 72-58 win over Texas A&M University-San Antonio (TAMUSA) on Saturday afternoon, powered by a stellar performance from Helena Galunic. The Pilots have rattled off six straight wins to improve their overall record to 11-3 and 10-1 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Galunic delivered a dominant double-double, leading the Pilots with 21 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Her energy on both ends of the court set the tone for LSUS, who improved their efficiency as the game progressed. Joining her in the spotlight was Selma Markisic, who contributed 14 points and narrowly missed a double-double of her own with nine rebounds.
Erynn Williams continued to showcase her versatility, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out five assists, while Fatima Katembo added to the Pilots' strong rebounding effort with eight boards. Vicky Parra made her presence felt defensively with three crucial blocks, as the Pilots stifled TAMUSA's offensive rhythm throughout the game.
LSUS shot 40.3% from the field and converted 66.7% of their free throws, but struggled from beyond the arc, managing just 12.5% from three-point range. However, their defensive prowess and control of the boards proved decisive.
The Jaguars were led by Natalia Trevino, who contributed 15 points, five assists, four rebounds, and four steals. Evelyn Lorenzo added 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Emily Carranco chipped in 10 points and six rebounds. Despite their efforts, TAMUSA shot just 28.1% from the field and 22.9% from three-point range, unable to overcome LSUS's relentless defense and physicality.
With this win, the Pilots head into the holiday break on a high note. LSUS will return to action on Jan. 4, when they host LSU Alexandria at The Dock. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
