Pilots Dominate University of the Southwest with 90-48 Victory

HOBBS, N.M. — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of the Southwest Mustangs, 90-48.
The Pilots (7-3, 6-1 RRAC) were led by a balanced offensive effort and tenacious defense. Paula Gonzalez Herrero paced LSUS with a team-high 15 points, while also adding four rebounds to her stat line. Alyssa Christophe contributed 14 points, three steals, and two rebounds, providing a spark on both ends of the floor.
Helena Galunic turned in a stellar double-double performance with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with two assists. Vicky Parra rounded out the Pilots' top scorers with 11 points and three assists.
LSUS shot an impressive 51.5 percent from the field, including 39.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 64.3 percent from the free throw line. The Pilots' defensive pressure stifled the Mustangs, holding Southwest to 30.5 percent shooting overall, 29.4 percent from three, and 33.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Southwest's Macie Werdel led the Mustangs with 11 points and six rebounds, while Milinda Arguellez added nine points, six rebounds, and three steals.
The Pilots now turn their attention to their next challenge, hosting North American University at The Dock on Thursday, Dec. 12. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
