Pilots Edge Loyola in Thrilling 66-65 Victory

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSUS women's basketball team claimed a nail-biting 66-65 victory over Loyola University (La.) on Sunday afternoon at home in Shreveport. With this win, the Pilots kick off their season on a high note, thanks to a collective team effort and a standout performance by Paula Gonzalez Herrero.

Gonzalez Herrero led the charge for the Pilots, posting 20 points, five rebounds, and two assists, showcasing her scoring ability in crucial moments. Selma Markisic added a strong 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Alyssa Chandler chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal to round out the Pilot's top scoring trio.

On the boards, LSUS saw significant contributions from Lacey Robins, who led the team with eight rebounds, followed closely by Rachel Emmanuel, who grabbed seven. As a team, the Pilots shot 39.7 percent from the field, 26.9 percent from three-point range, and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line, overcoming a relentless Loyola squad.

Loyola's Deniya Thompson was unstoppable, scoring a game-high 38 points with three rebounds and two steals, while her teammate Caitlin Davis added 11 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. The Wolves shot 39.6 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the arc, and 81.5 percent from the stripe, making for a tight contest throughout the game.

The Pilots will look to build on this momentum as they head to the Campbellsville Classic, where they face Bethel University (Tennessee) on November 8 in Campbellsville, Ky.
