Lady Pilots Sink Mustangs with 32-Point Victory

Hobbs, New Mexico — The Pilots Women's Basketball team continues their undefeated conference run Thursday evening as they took down the Mustangs of Southwest (NM). 73-41. With the win the Pilots improve to an overall record of 9-2 and a conference record of 5-0.
The Pilots and Mustangs took to the court in the first quarter vying for the game lead. As the first quarter came to a close the Pilots found themselves tied with the Mustangs 16-16. The Pilots pulled away in the second half as they put up 21 points. Derrica Gilbert put up two three pointers while Tanashia Hairston contributed from beyond the arc as well. The Pilots lead heading into the half time break up 37-21.
Exiting the locker room the Pilots continued to put up buckets. Applying pressure the Pilots put up 12 points before further sealing their victory in the fourth. The Pilots spent the fourth quarter stifling the Mustangs as they tacked on 24 points to take the 32-point victory, 73-41.
Two Pilots found themselves in the double digits as Alexis Brown put up 13 points and Derrica Gilbert netted 10. Brown found ten points from the field while hitting three free throws. Gilbert added nine of her points from beyond the arc with one made free throw.
The Pilots will be back to action Saturday January 6th as they face the Tigers of Paul Quinn. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm CT from Dallas, Texas.
