Women's Basketball Hands Panthers Their First Loss of the Season

Little Rock, Arkansas—In a thrilling matchup, the LSU Shreveport Pilots secured a decisive 68-56 victory over the previously unbeaten Philander Smith Panthers. With the win the Pilots improve to a season record of 3-2.
The Pilots took control early, putting up an impressive 17 points in the first quarter while showcasing sharpshooting skills, going 7-13 from the field with a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc. The Panthers struggled to keep pace, managing only 13 points in the opening quarter.
Despite a Panthers' comeback in the second quarter, where they outscored the Pilots 15-12, LSU Shreveport entered halftime with a slim 29-28 lead. The Pilots continued to exhibit resilience, matching the Panthers with 17 points each in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter proved decisive as the Pilots pulled away, netting 22 points and stifling the Panthers to just 11. Key contributions came from Tahjea Smith, who secured a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, adding two assists and two steals. Derrica Gilbert led the charge with an outstanding performance, contributing 17 points, including three three-pointers, along with two rebounds and two steals. Destanee Roblow also made her mark with 10 points, going 5-11 from the field, and making valuable contributions in rebounds, assists, and steals.
The Pilots' collective effort and clutch performances in the crucial moments secured a well-deserved victory, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season.
The Pilots will be back in action November 30th as they open their conference season against the Generals of LSU Alexandria. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm from The Dock in Shreveport, Louisiana.
