Pilots Claim Victory in Champions of Character Game, Defeat USAO 99-81

SHREVEPORT, La. — In a spirited display of teamwork and sportsmanship, the LSUS Pilots triumphed over the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma (USAO) Drovers, 99-81, in their annual Champions of Character Game on Friday morning. This special event welcomed local elementary school students, immersing them in the NAIA's core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
The Pilots were on fire offensively, with both Davion Coleman and Melvion Flanagan leading the charge, scoring 21 points each. Tahjae Hill added an impressive 16 points, and Taj Anderson contributed 13. Meikkel Murray made a significant impact on both ends of the court, recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Trey Boston facilitated the offense, dishing out eight assists to keep the momentum going for LSUS.
LSUS shot an impressive 61.3 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc, showcasing their sharp shooting. They also hit 64.7 percent of their free throws, maintaining their lead over USAO throughout the game.
The Drovers fought hard, with Ryein Kennedy leading their scoring effort at 17 points. Manny Gatkek added 16 points, while Cade Allen and Mohand Ammad contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jaden Harrell was strong on the boards with eight rebounds and kept the offense flowing with six assists. USAO finished the game shooting 50.8 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from the three-point range, and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line.
This win boosts the Pilots' record and reinforces the values central to the Champions of Character initiative, as the team demonstrated respect and sportsmanship throughout the game. LSUS now sets its sights on their upcoming matchup on November 12 against Texas A&M University-Texarkana, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
