SHREVEPORT, La. — The LSUS Pilots tipped off their home opener in commanding fashion, besting the Centenary College Gents, 97-78, in a thrilling rivalry matchup Wednesday night at The Dock.
Taj Anderson led the offensive charge, lighting up the scoreboard with 25 points and showcasing his playmaking with five assists and a team-high five steals. Anderson's dynamic performance was well-supported by Trey Boston, who contributed 19 points, a game-high six assists, and three rebounds, while Davion Coleman added 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists to round out the Pilots' impressive stat line. Both Tahjae Hill and Devonte Austin made a strong impact on the glass, grabbing eight rebounds apiece.
The Pilots shot 48.6 percent from the field and an efficient 45.5 percent from beyond the arc, consistently putting pressure on Centenary's defense. They also capitalized at the free-throw line, hitting 75 percent of their attempts. Centenary kept the game competitive with sharp shooting of their own, hitting 51.7 percent from the field. Zyquarius Cowart and Sirwilliam McDuffie led the Gents with 16 points each, while Craig Collier chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.
Despite the Gents' effort, the Pilots' relentless defense forced several turnovers and stifled Centenary's 3-point game, holding them to 32.3 percent from beyond the arc. Jakobi Greenleaf stood out for the Gents defensively with three steals, while Nicholas Addison added two blocks.
The Pilots will look to build on this momentum as they take on Nelson University at The Dock on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Fans can expect an electrifying atmosphere as LSUS seeks to extend their winning streak and continue their journey in what promises to be a thrilling season.
