Shreveport, Louisiana— In a highly competitive basketball clash, the LSU Shreveport Pilots secured a hard-fought victory over the Xavier (LA) Gold Rush with a final score of 81-72. With the win the Pilots move to a conference record of 7-2 and an overall record of 12-3.
The game started as a closely contested battle, with both the Pilots and the Gold Rush exchanging points for the first ten minutes. However, the Pilots found their rhythm and managed to establish a nine-point lead as they headed into halftime.
At the halfway mark, the Pilots were 13-for-27 from the field, connecting on five three-pointers, and making six of nine free throws. On the other side, the Gold Rush went 10-for-29 with four three-pointers and four made free throws.
As the second half began, both teams came out ready to battle. The Gold Rush made a determined effort and quickly closed the gap, bringing the score to 40-41 within the first four minutes of the half. The game continued to be closely contested, with the teams exchanging the lead. With just two minutes left on the clock, the Pilots initiated a decisive nine-point run, taking control and leading 75-68. As the final seconds ticked away, the Pilots secured a well-earned nine-point victory with a final score of 81-72.
Throughout the game, the Pilots showcased their offensive prowess, finishing 25-for-56 from the field, netting ten three-pointers, and converting 21-of-27 free throws. Four Pilots made significant contributions, each scoring in double digits.
Tyler Washington led the way with 18 points, going 5-7 from the field with two three-pointers and a stellar 6-7 at the free-throw line. Washington also secured a double-double with 11 rebounds, adding one steal and one block.
Paul King contributed 16 points, hitting five field goals, including two three-pointers, and making a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. Jordan DeCuir added 11 points, including three three-pointers, while James Ellis rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, going 3-5 from the field and 4-7 at the free-throw line. Ellis also made significant contributions with five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
The Pilots will be back in action Saturday Janaury 20th as they face conference opponent North American. Tip-off is set for 4:00pm CT from The Dock in Shreveport, Louisiana.
