Pilots Fall to No. 2 Langston in Top Five Matchup

Fort Worth, Texas— In a thrilling basketball showdown, the LSU Shreveport Pilots went head-to-head against the formidable number two-ranked Langston Lions, ultimately succumbing in overtime with a final score of 71-59. With the loss the Pilots move to an overall record of 9-1.
The first half was a tightly contested battle, with both the Pilots and Lions exchanging possessions. The Lions took an early lead, holding a 2-0 advantage for the first four minutes of the game. However, the Pilots responded with a remarkable 14-point run, surging ahead to a 21-15 lead. The Pilots maintained their momentum, heading into halftime with a 30-26 lead. Shooting 10-for-25 from the field, the Pilots showcased their long-range prowess with five successful three-pointers, complemented by a solid 5-of-6 performance from the free-throw line.
The Pilots opened the second half with a six-point run, attempting to extend their lead. The Lions, displaying determination, countered with their own six and seven-point runs, bringing the game within reach. As regulation time expired, the teams were deadlocked at 56-56. The Pilots finished the second half 9-20 from the field, adding two more three-pointers and converting 6-of-7 free throws.
The game headed into overtime, where the Lions dominated, outscoring the Pilots 15-3. Despite the loss, three Pilots managed to reach double digits in scoring. DAmon Davis led the way with 15 points, showcasing sharpshooting skills with a 5-for-6 performance from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Davis also contributed three points from the free-throw line and grabbed 5 rebounds. Melvion Flanagan followed closely with 14 points, including three successful three-pointers and a 5-of-6 free-throw performance. Calvin Carpenter rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points, going 4-for-12 from the field, making one three-pointer, and converting two free throws.
While the Pilots fought valiantly, the Langston Lions proved to be a formidable opponent, securing the victory in a hard-fought overtime battle.
The Pilots will be back in action December 30th as they take to the court for a Division I face off with the University of North Texas. Tipoff is set for 1:00pm from Denton, Texas.
