Pilots Reach 500 Program Wins With Nail Bitting Victory Over the Generals

Shreveport, Louisiana-- In a thrilling basketball showdown, the LSU Shreveport Pilots narrowly emerged victorious against the LSU Alexandria Generals with a final score of 91-89. With the win the Pilots move to an overall record of 5-0 and a conference record of 1-0. They simultaneously secured their 500th program win since the return of the sport in 2003.

 

From the opening tip-off, both teams engaged in a fierce battle, exchanging possessions and baskets in a contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The first half was closely contested, with the Pilots managing to secure a slim lead of 38-34 as the teams headed into the halftime break. The Pilots went 14-33 from the field, converting one three-pointer, and completing 9 free throws. On the other side, the Generals were 14-35, making three three-pointers, and adding three points at the free-throw line.

 

The second half continued the intense competition, with the Generals determined to challenge the Pilots. Outscoring the Pilots 55-53 in the second half, the Generals made a strong push for a comeback. However, the Pilots displayed resilience and managed to withstand the Generals' efforts.

 

In a nail-biting finish, the Pilots clung to a narrow lead, and a last-second buzzer-beater from Melvion Flanagan secured the thrilling victory for LSU Shreveport. The Pilots finished the game 19-35 from the field, sinking five three-pointers, and making 8 of 12 free throws.

 

Three Pilots stood out with double-digit contributions. Melvion Flanagan led the way with an impressive 24 points, showcasing his scoring prowess with four three-pointers, an 8-12 field goal record, and four made free throws. Jalen King contributed 15 points and collected a double-double, going 4-5 from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line. King also added 13 rebounds and one block to his impressive performance. Paul King compiled 10 points, going 4-9 from the field and a perfect 2-2 at the free-throw line, while also contributing four rebounds and five assists.

 

The Pilots' ability to hold off the determined Generals and secure the win in such a closely contested matchup showcased their determination and clutch performances when it mattered most.

 

The Pilots will be back in action Saturday December 2nd as they take on the Wildcats of conference opponent Louisiana Christian. Tip-off is set for 4:00pm CT from The Dock in Shreveport, Louisiana.
