Pilots Prevail in High-Scoring Battle Against Mustangs, 95-87
HOBBS, N.M. – The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) Pilots secured a hard-fought victory over the University of the Southwest Mustangs on Saturday afternoon, triumphing 95-87 in Hobbs, N.M. Behind a stellar offensive performance from Taj Anderson, the Pilots improved their record and showcased their scoring depth in an exciting matchup.
Anderson was electric, pouring in a game-high 36 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. Trey Boston complemented Anderson's efforts with 17 points and a team-high seven assists, along with three rebounds. Davion Coleman provided a spark with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Meikkel Murray and Tyler Washington chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively, each grabbing five rebounds.
The Pilots were highly efficient on the offensive end, shooting 51.5 percent from the field, an impressive 47.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Mustangs were led by James Evans, who delivered a standout performance with 19 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Jalen McAfee Marion added 18 points and four rebounds, while Rahkiem Petterson and Jacob Koontz contributed 16 points apiece. Petterson also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Southwest shot 45.9 percent from the field, 30.3 percent from three-point range, and 65 percent from the stripe.
The win keeps LSUS rolling as they prepare to return home for their next contest. The Pilots will face North American University on Thursday, Dec. 12, at The Dock. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
