
LSUS Women's Tennis Falls to Louisiana Christian in RRAC Quarterfinals
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The LSUS women's tennis team dropped a tightly contested match to Louisiana Christian University, 4-3, in the quarterfinal round of the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Monday morning.
In doubles play, the Wildcats claimed the point after taking two of the three matches. LSUS's No. 2 duo Angela Basto and Maike Tiemersma earned a hard-fought 7-6 victory over Elizaveta Mikhailova and Adjowa-Sika Geli. However, the No. 1 pairing of Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado narrowly fell to Patricia Principal Pineda and Alexandra Cedeno, 6-7. In the No. 3 spot, Lidia Gomez and Sara Sofia Sanchez dropped their match 2-6 to Raquel Coelho Rodrigues and Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez.
The singles competition remained tight throughout, with both teams securing three victories. Lescher led the Pilots with a dominant win at No. 1 singles, defeating Rodrigues 6-2, 6-2. Gomez followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ferrer at No. 4, while Sanchez rallied to top Geli 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot.
Tiemersma fell to Mikhailova 3-6, 3-6 at No. 2, and Basto lost to Cedeno 4-6, 3-6 at No. 3. The deciding match came at No. 6 singles, where Maldonado was edged by Principal 1-6, 6-3, 0-6.
With the loss, LSUS concludes its season in the conference quarterfinals, while Louisiana Christian advances to the semifinals. The Pilots finish the season 8-5 overall.
