LSUS Falls to LSUA in Hard-Fought Road Match

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LSUS women's tennis team came up just short in a tightly contested match against LSU Alexandria, falling 4-3 in a make-up match Friday afternoon.

The Pilots (7-2) started strong in doubles play, securing the point with wins from Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado over Nahia Echaide and Joline Roesch, 6-4, and Maike Tiermersma and Angela Basto edging Kanu Rajawat and Gianna Panaggio, 7-5. Lidia Gomez and Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano fell to Belen Blasco and Isabella Stuurman, 3-6.

LSUS battled through a series of close singles matches but ultimately fell short. Lescher dropped a hard-fought match to Echaide, 6-7, 4-6, while Tiermersma fell to Rajawat, 3-6, 2-6. Basto was unable to overcome Blasco, falling 0-6, 2-6.

Gomez delivered a comeback victory over Panaggio, rallying for a 6-7, 6-2, 6-0 win. Maldonado also fought through a tough match, defeating Roesch 6-7, 6-1, 10-4. However, Sanchez fell to Stuurman, 3-6, 6-7, 0-6, sealing the win for the Generals.

LSUS will return to action on Monday, April 7, when they host Northwestern State University (La.) at 2 p.m.
