Since joining LSU Shreveport in 2016, Lucas Morgan has led a transformational era for the university’s athletic department. Backed by over 14 years of experience in both NCAA Division II and NAIA athletics, Morgan has elevated LSUS into a national powerhouse across multiple sports, fostering a culture rooted in competitive excellence, academic achievement, and student-athlete development
Under Morgan’s leadership, LSUS secured its first-ever national championship in record-setting fashion, with the baseball program capturing national attention by completing a perfect 59-0 season. The Pilots have amassed 35 Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) championships, 33 national tournament appearances, and seven NAIA Opening Round titles during his tenure. Beyond the scoreboard, LSUS student-athletes have excelled academically, with the department’s overall GPA improving each year and nearly 65% of athletes maintaining GPAs above 3.0.
A recognized leader on the national stage, Morgan has been an influential voice within the NAIA governance structure since 2018. He currently serves as 1st Vice President on the NAIA Athletics Directors Association (NAIA-ADA) Board of Directors and contributes to key bodies such as the NAIA National Administrative Council, Competitive Experience Committee, Championship Competition Committee, and the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association (MOAA). He also plays an integral role on the NAIA Men’s Soccer Executive Committee and National Selection Committee.
Morgan’s impact is evident not only in athletic and academic success but also in significant facility enhancements. He has led more than $9.5 million in capital improvements across LSUS athletics, including upgrades to Pilot Field, The Dock basketball gym, and the soccer complex. He was instrumental in reviving the men’s and women’s soccer programs in 2017-18 and launching the university’s eSports program in 2020.
Fundraising under Morgan’s leadership has surged, with the department’s budget increasing by 313% and athletic scholarship funding growing by 218%. In just the past year, LSUS achieved a 200% increase in fundraising revenue—directly supporting scholarships, staffing, and continued facility growth.
Community engagement remains central to Morgan’s vision. Through thousands of volunteer hours from LSUS student-athletes, the athletics department has become a cornerstone of the Shreveport-Bossier area. Morgan’s leadership in service earned him a place in the Greater Shreveport 40 Under Forty Class of 2023.
Morgan’s leadership has been widely recognized, as he was selected as a national Athletic Director of the Year by NACDA in 2024–25 and is a three-time RRAC Athletic Director of the Year (2018–19, 2022–23, 2024–25). LSUS was honored as an NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star Institution and captured its first RRAC All-Sports Trophy in 2020–21, marking the department as the conference’s top overall program.
A former collegiate basketball player at Dodge City Community College and Newman University, Morgan earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Wichita State University and a master’s in Physical Education/Sports Administration from the University of Central Missouri.
Today, Morgan remains dedicated to growing the LSUS athletics brand, developing student-athletes for life beyond graduation, and building a department that Shreveport-Bossier can take pride in.
“Our goals are to prepare our graduating student-athletes to flourish in their careers, continue to grow the LSUS athletics brand, and make our community proud by winning championships.”
Morgan resides in Bossier City with his wife, Savoeun. They have three children: Nash, Amaya, and Alexis.
